I like taking her to the movies

Now that she's three
she won't sit on my lap
unless she is very tired and sleepy
and the movie is a little scary
and it's dark in the theatre
then she clings to me
and the heavy weight of her is welcome

because it's like the thousands of times
when I held her to my breast

and I looked down
at a geometry more beautiful than a circle:
the perfect oval of her head.
